Pune, 22 July 2025: In an effort to ease long-standing traffic congestion in the Hinjawadi IT hub, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police and representatives from IT companies conducted a joint survey of several traffic-heavy zones. The initiative, which follows a July 10 meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to address infrastructure concerns in the area, has led to the identification of 10 key traffic hotspots across Hinjawadi, Maan, and Wakad.

Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey instructed Additional Commissioner Sarang Awhad to carry out an on-ground assessment along with traffic police and members of the 'Unclog Hinjawadi' campaign. The team surveyed the IT park and surrounding areas to understand the root causes of bottlenecks and devise effective short-term measures.

Based on the joint inspection, several traffic management steps have been proposed. These include setting up portable traffic signals, deploying more police personnel and traffic wardens, installing central dividers, restricting entry at specific junctions, penalizing wrong-side driving, and allowing free left turns where possible.

Among the most problematic junctions identified were: Madhuban Hotel Chowk, Shell Petrol Pump Chowk (before Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Pandavnagar Chowk, Mandavi Mandir Road (Phase 3), SEZ Bhavan Circle (Phase 3), Wipro Circle (Phase 2), Croma Chowk/Amsterdam Hotel Chowk, the junction near Mindtree Consulting, and service roads at Bhujbal Chowk.

Additional Commissioner Sarang Awhad and the campaign members surveyed the entire IT park alongside employees and residents to collect insights. Suggestions were gathered directly from commuters who regularly face delays, and expectations are now high that relief may come soon.

“We provided detailed information about the major traffic congestion spots and how they can be avoided. Our only modest expectation is for smoother commuting within the IT park. We hope that, in a month’s time, travel here will at least be free of major traffic jams.”
Sachin Lodhe, Unclog Hinjawadi

IT professionals expressed hope that these actionable measures will be implemented in the coming two to three weeks, offering long-awaited respite from daily gridlocks.
