Apple has purchased MotionVFX, a company specializing in video editing, recognized for its plug-ins, templates, and visual effects tools that work with Apple's Final Cut Pro. “We’re thrilled to announce that MotionVFX is joining Apple to empower creators and editors to do their best work,” the startup said on its website Monday. “From day one, we’ve focused on quality, ease of use, and great design, values we also admire in Apple products. We’re excited to embrace them together.”

Founded in 2009, MotionVFX offers editing packages starting at $29 per month for Final Cut Pro users. The acquisition allows Apple to integrate these capabilities directly, reducing reliance on third-party extensions.

The move could strengthen Apple’s position against Adobe Premiere Pro and support subscriber growth, as Apple’s services like iCloud, Apple Music, and app bundles typically yield higher profit margins than hardware sales.

In January, Apple launched the Creator Studio subscription, bundling popular creative apps including Final Cut Pro for $12.99 per month or $129 per year, competing with Adobe Creative Cloud.

Apple has historically avoided large acquisitions, instead acquiring smaller companies to integrate talent and technology into its existing products.
