Apple has released the second beta of iOS 18.5 to developers, marking another step in the testing cycle for this minor update. The new beta, available for download via the Settings app on compatible devices, introduces a few design tweaks and under-the-hood improvements, primarily focusing on bug fixes and performance optimisations.

Users can now easily disable contact photos in the Mail app directly from the app settings, enhancing user experience. This feature addresses feedback from users who preferred the older design without contact photos.

The update includes a more accessible display of AppleCare information in the Settings app, making it easier for users to check their warranty status. iOS 18.5 is expected to include various bug fixes and performance enhancements, though specific details are not yet fully disclosed. The focus is on stabilizing the operating system ahead of the major iOS 19 update.

As Apple prepares for the release of iOS 19 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, iOS 18.5 serves as a bridge update. It ensures that any remaining issues are addressed before the transition to the new major version. Historically, Apple’s x.5 updates are released to the public in May. Therefore, iOS 18.5 is likely to become available to all users in the coming weeks.

While iOS 18.5 does not introduce groundbreaking features, it is crucial for maintaining the stability and performance of Apple devices. As developers continue testing the beta versions, users can expect a smooth transition to iOS 19 later this year.
