In one of its largest cross-platform moves yet, WhatsApp has launched its long-awaited standalone Apple Watch app, letting users manage chats straight from their wrists. Starting November 4, Apple Watch users worldwide can read messages, reply, send voice notes, and access recent chats, all without needing their iPhones nearby.

This brings the messaging service nearer to providing a smooth multi-device experience across phones, desktops, and wearables. WhatsApp has verified that all communications, including messages and calls, on the Apple Watch app will be protected with end-to-end encryption, similar to what is available on mobile and desktop platforms.

How to Set Up WhatsApp on Your Apple Watch

  1. Update WhatsApp on your iPhone through the App Store.

  2. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.

  3. Navigate to Available Apps.

  4. Tap Install next to WhatsApp.

  5. Open WhatsApp on your Apple Watch and sign in.

  6. Enable notifications to start receiving messages directly on your wrist.

Previously, Apple Watch users could only view limited notifications and send preset replies. The new WhatsApp app brings full messaging to your wrist, including:

  • Read full messages: View entire conversations on your watch.

  • Quick replies: Respond via dictation, emojis, pre-set messages, or scribbles.

  • Voice notes: Send and receive messages without using your phone.

  • Enhanced media display: Stickers and images appear clearly on compatible watches.

  • Notifications: Receive alerts for incoming WhatsApp messages directly on your wrist.

After installation, the Apple Watch app operates independently, allowing you to remain connected without your iPhone nearby, as long as the watch has Wi-Fi or cellular access. The worldwide release of this app has commenced, and it can be downloaded today from the App Store, assuming the device and software prerequisites are fulfilled.
