A video of seer Sri Satyatmatheertha Swamiji from the Uttaradi Matha sitting in a car has become widely popular on X (formerly Twitter). Posted by Adarsh Hegde (@adarshahgd), the clip shows the seer at ease as the self-driving car, equipped with locally developed autonomous technology, smoothly navigates the college campus.

The project is currently under development, with an official launch anticipated in the coming months. As of now, researchers are analyzing and mapping Indian road conditions to ensure the driverless car functions efficiently and safely when it is ready, as reported by various media outlets.

The project is a joint venture between Wipro, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and RV College of Engineering as part of the WIRIN (Wipro-IISc Research and Innovation Network) program. WIRIN aims to promote the development of future technologies through research, innovation, and real-world applications.

The partnership between Wipro and IISc, formalised through a memorandum of understanding, aims to promote collaborative research in artificial intelligence, robotics, and human-machine interaction. RV College contributes engineering expertise for developing the autonomous vehicle.

Globally, companies like Tesla are experimenting with autonomous technology for ride-hailing services. In the United States, Tesla has obtained initial approvals in California to run self-driving ride-hailing cars, with additional rollouts anticipated in Texas.
