Pune: A sharp 4-degree Celsius drop in temperatures across Maharashtra has brought back the winter chill, with cities like Pune, Nashik, and Dhule witnessing significant dips.

Experts predict the cold spell will last for the next 10 days, as northern westerly winds and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir intensify the state’s winter.

Pune Records Noticeable Drop in Temperature

Pune’s minimum temperature dropped to 16°C on Sunday from 20°C earlier in the week, signaling a return of the winter chill.

High-altitude westerly winds have contributed to this temperature drop, which is expected to persist until December 18.

Nashik and Dhule Experience Severe Chill

Nashik experienced a significant drop in temperature, with the mercury falling to 12.5°C from 16.6°C in just one day. Early morning fog added to the cold. Dhule reported a low of 9.5°C, marking an increase in the chill.

Cold Weather Grips Vidarbha and Nagpur

Despite the fading effects of Cyclone Fengal, cloudy conditions remain over Vidarbha, including Nagpur, where temperatures are gradually decreasing. This cloudy spell may last for two more days, with isolated areas likely to receive light rainfall.

Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir

Heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Baramulla, has further contributed to the cold wave sweeping Maharashtra.

This sudden drop in temperatures marks a return to winter for Maharashtra, with residents bracing for a prolonged cold spell.
