Kothrud: Speeding Bike Crashes into Paud Phata Flyover Barrier, Two College Students Dead

Kothrud police rushed to the scene and immediately shifted them to hospital. However, both were declared dead before treatment could begin.

Pune: A tragic accident occurred early Monday (March 31) morning when a speeding motorcycle crashed into the barrier of the Paud Phata flyover, resulting in the death of two college students. The victims have been identified as Sarvesh Gopal Patil (20) and Pushkar Sudhakar Chaudhary (19), both residents of Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh.

According to Kothrud Police, the accident happened around 3 AM on Monday when Sarvesh, who was riding the bike, lost control and crashed into the barrier of the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Flyover at Paud Phata Chowk. Both Sarvesh and Pushkar sustained severe injuries due to the impact.

Upon receiving the alert, Kothrud police rushed to the scene and immediately shifted them to a hospital. However, both were declared dead before treatment could begin. Kothrud Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane confirmed that the deceased were college students and that overspeeding was a key factor in the accident.

Rising Accidents on Paud Phata Flyover and Karve Road
Paud Phata Flyover has been a site of multiple fatal accidents due to overspeeding. Authorities have reported several incidents where motorcyclists have crashed into the flyover barriers. Similarly, Karve Road, one of Pune’s busiest roads, has witnessed numerous serious accidents in recent years:

Motorcyclist Keshav Baburao Munge (51) was killed on February 13, 2024 after being hit by a school bus near Karve Road. Aarti Suresh Manvane was fatally hit by a speeding dumper while crossing the road near Kothrud Bus Stand in 2024. Retired Agriculture Officer Sunil Bhaskar Deshmukh died in a dumper accident near Ayurved Rasashala. Krishna Ganpati Deoli was killed in a road accident on Karve Road. An intoxicated tempo driver crashed into six vehicles, killing pillion rider Geetanjali Shrikant Amarale.

Following Monday’s accident, Kothrud Police have registered a case for reckless and negligent driving. Police Sub-Inspector Rajkumar Adagal is leading the investigation.
