Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to enhance eco-friendly public transport by launching two new e-bus depots at Charholi and Hinjewadi Phase II.

The first phase of operations will see the deployment of 95 electric buses, significantly improving connectivity for residents in these areas. With the opening of these two new depots, PMPML will have a total of seven e-bus depots.

In line with its goal to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable transportation, PMPML is actively expanding its fleet of CNG and electric buses.

PMPML had originally planned to introduce 650 new e-buses in phases. However, delays in the construction of Charholi and Hinjewadi Phase II depots—stalled for over a year—hindered the addition of new buses to the fleet. Now, with both depots finally completed, the new e-bus services are expected to start soon.

As per PMPML’s operational strategy, the Charholi depot will initially deploy 35 e-buses, while the Hinjewadi Phase II depot will operate 60 e-buses. PMPML is currently finalizing the routes and staff allocations for these buses, ensuring efficient public transport connectivity in these rapidly developing areas.

“The route planning for the newly deployed buses is in progress, and we aim to roll out services as soon as possible,” said Satish Gawhane, Chief Traffic Manager, PMPML.
