Pune: A 44-year-old woman from Sangvi underwent a complex surgical procedure for intestinal cancer at Sassoon General Hospital. The surgery involved the removal of the cancerous section of her large intestine, followed by its reconnection to the remaining healthy intestines. The successful procedure was performed by a team of surgeons led by Dr. Kirankumar Jadhav.
The woman had been suffering from persistent abdominal pain, lower stomach discomfort, and constipation for several weeks. Three weeks ago, she experienced severe pain and was brought to Sassoon Hospital, where doctors conducted a CT scan. To further examine her condition, a colonoscopy was performed, which revealed that her large intestine had become partially narrowed and swollen.
To determine if the condition was cancerous, a biopsy was taken from the affected intestinal area and sent for further testing. As her constipation issues temporarily subsided, she was discharged from the hospital.
However, 8 to 10 days after returning home, her symptoms worsened, prompting her readmission to Sassoon Hospital. A PET scan raised concerns about possible cancerous growth. Additional tests confirmed that she had developed tumors on the inner side of her right large intestine, leading to a diagnosis of Mucinous Adenocarcinoma, a specific type of intestinal cancer.
The surgical team at Sassoon Hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Kirankumar Jadhav, performed a major surgery to remove the affected section of the intestine. The healthy parts were then reconnected, ensuring normal digestive function.
Following the procedure, the woman’s abdominal complications have been resolved, and she is recovering well. According to Dr. Eknath Pawar, Dean of Sassoon Hospital, she will be discharged soon and will undergo chemotherapy in phases as part of her continued treatment.
This successful surgery highlights Sassoon Hospital's expertise in handling complex oncological cases, offering advanced cancer treatment to patients in need. The hospital continues to provide specialized care for cancer patients, ensuring early detection, timely intervention, and effective management of the disease.
