According to a source, unidentified drones were seen flying over the Miraflores Palace in central Caracas at approximately 8:00 p.m. (0000 GMT), leading security forces to open fire. This incident occurred just hours after Delcy Rodríguez, the deputy of President Nicolás Maduro, was sworn in as interim president following his ousting.

Gunshots were heard, but they were not as intense as the early morning attack on Saturday that toppled Maduro, according to a resident living five blocks from the palace, who noted that the incident lasted about a minute.

A video circulated on social media shows what appear to be tracer rounds being shot into the sky. The clip also shows several security officers rushing towards the palace after the gunfire.

On Monday, January 5, 2026, Venezuela's parliament appointed Delcy Rodriguez as the interim President, following the capture of her predecessor, Nicolas Maduro, by U.S. forces for a trial in New York. Ms. Rodriguez, who has expressed her willingness to work with Washington, was sworn into office at a National Assembly ceremony, where she informed lawmakers that she was doing so "on behalf of all Venezuelans".
