Pune: The Pune city is reporting a sudden spike in the spread of COVID-19 infection. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) witnessed 428 new cases on Wednesday. While four people succumbed to novel virus on Wednesday.

From past week PMC region is witnessing a rapid spread of the contagion. Once known as green-zones in the city which witnessed minimum cases are reporting large cases. As per the municipal corporation, Aundh-Baner has the maximum number of COVID-19 cases. The area has 43 COVID-19 cases. It is followed by Warje-Karvenagar with 43 cases while Kothrud-Bavdhan saw 41 cases on Wednesday.

Hadapsar-Mundhwa area is fourth in the list with 40 cases while Wanawadi-Ramtekdi has the least with 11 cases.

Also, the PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) on Wednesday gave a hint of reintroducing containment zones in the city.

Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol on Wednesday had said, “The spread of infection is on rise in Pune. Last week's positivity rate of 4.6 per cent has now gone to 12.5 per cent. A review meeting was held today to take the stock of the situation. Officials from the health department along with the PMC Commissioner were present at the meeting.” He also informed that private hospitals will also be requested to increase capacity of beds for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 is on rise in Maharashtra even after the vaccination drive started last month is going in full swing. The surge in the number of new cases in Maharashtra is now a big concern for the state government and it is mulling several options such as lockdown to curtail the infection.
