Pune, 26 July 2025: In view of continuous rainfall and rising water levels in key reservoirs, the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department has announced a controlled discharge from the Pavana and Mulshi dams. The move comes as part of precautionary flood management for Pune and surrounding areas.

As of this morning, 7,410 cusecs of water is being released from the Pavana Dam, beginning at 9:30 AM. Officials have indicated that due to ongoing rainfall, this discharge may increase gradually depending on inflows. The Pimpri-Chinchwad area has been placed under alert, and citizens are advised to stay cautious.

Authorities have requested that vehicles, animals, or any movable objects be cleared from riverbeds immediately to prevent damage. Local officials and departments have also been instructed to notify residents and take necessary preventive steps.

Meanwhile, the Mulshi Dam has reached 83.20% of its storage capacity. As a result, 12,200 cusecs of water is currently being discharged into the Mula River through the dam’s spillway. Officials stated that this outflow may be adjusted based on the situation, and people should avoid venturing near the river.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune district for July 26, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the next few hours. The district administration has appealed to citizens to remain indoors wherever possible and to avoid crossing water-logged or low-lying areas.

Residents across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are urged to stay updated with official announcements, take safety precautions, and cooperate with emergency services during this period of heightened rainfall and dam activity.
