Pune, 29 December 2025: In a significant political development ahead of the civic polls, the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) have decided to jointly contest the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections.

The decision comes after a series of meetings between local leaders of both factions and senior party leadership.

An office-bearer of the NCP’s city unit said that the agreement between the two factions has been finalised and an official announcement is expected soon. As per the seat-sharing arrangement for PMC, the NCP will contest 125 seats, while the NCP(SP) will contest 40 seats.

The alliance has also been extended to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP president Ajit Pawar formally announced that both factions will fight the PCMC elections together.

Addressing party workers at a campaign meeting in Talawade, he said the decision reflected public sentiment and the demand for unity at the local level.

Ajit Pawar said that discussions on seat-sharing for PCMC have been completed and details will be shared shortly. He added that political decisions are sometimes taken by keeping the larger interests of Maharashtra in mind, noting that both factions share roots in farming communities and grassroots politics.

NCP(SP) leader Rohit Pawar confirmed the alliance, clarifying that it is restricted only to the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad civic bodies. He said the tie-up was formed as per the wishes of local workers and leaders and is aimed at taking on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in these two corporations.

Rohit Pawar also made it clear that both parties will contest the elections on their respective symbols and ruled out any possibility of a post-election merger. He stressed that if the alliance were meant to be broader, it would have been announced across Maharashtra, underlining that this understanding is purely local and issue-based.
