Jannik Sinner clinched his 21st career title and his third trophy of the 2025 season by defeating American teenager Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in the China Open final on Wednesday in Beijing. The victory returns the Italian world number two to the winner's circle less than four weeks after he lost the US Open final and the World No. 1 ranking to Carlos Alcaraz. With this win, Sinner becomes just the third man to secure multiple China Open titles, joining elite company alongside Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

The 24-year-old dominated the final against the 19-year-old Tien, who was appearing in his first-ever ATP Tour final. Sinner broke immediately in the first set and controlled the match with aggressive striking and serving, finishing the 1 hour and 12-minute contest with 10 aces. The Italian's performance included hitting 24 winners to 16 unforced errors, while Tien managed only 11 winners against 18 unforced errors. Sinner also saved both break points he faced.

Tien, currently ranked No. 52, impressed throughout the tournament with wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev en route to the final. A victory would have made him the lowest-ranked champion in tournament history and the second-youngest American Tour champion since Andy Roddick in 2002. Despite the loss, the American is projected to rise to a career-high World No. 36 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and is set to qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second consecutive year.

Sinner’s victory, which follows his major titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season, underlines the absolute dominance he and Carlos Alcaraz hold over the rest of the tour. Sinner now holds an impressive 42-5 (89%) win-loss record for 2025 and has reached the final in seven of eight tournaments, including all four Grand Slams. Having won 79 of his last 80 matches on hard courts against players other than Alcaraz.

With World No. 1 Alcaraz winning the Japan Open on Tuesday but subsequently withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters due to an ankle injury, Sinner will be the top seed at the upcoming ATP Masters 1000 event. Sinner leaves Beijing trailing Alcaraz by 2,590 points in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, giving him a chance to reclaim the World No. 1 ranking before the season ends. "It is a very, very special place for me," Sinner said during the trophy presentation, adding, "We will try to improve and push for more and let’s see what the rest of the season looks like, but I am very happy to share this with all of you."
