Syntilay, a startup in the footwear industry, has introduced the world’s first AI-designed and 3D-printed shoes, combining cutting-edge technology with fashion. The company, founded by 25-year-old entrepreneur Ben Weiss, has also gained the backing of Joe Foster, the co-founder of Reebok. With its futuristic approach to shoe design and production, Syntilay aims to revolutionise the footwear industry by offering highly customisable and innovative products.

Using Midjourney AI, the basic shape of the shoe was conceptualised. This was followed by a human artist refining the design into a sketch, which was then converted into a 3D model using Vizcom AI. Generative AI added intricate textures and patterns to complete the look.

According to Ben Weiss, leveraging AI for shoe design drastically reduces production timelines. Traditional shoe models can take up to 18 months to develop, but with AI and 3D printing, this process is shortened to just a few months. This efficiency allows Syntilay to bring new designs to market faster than ever before.

One of Syntilay's most remarkable features is its focus on personalised comfort. Customers can scan their feet using a smartphone app, ensuring a custom fit tailored to their exact measurements. This even accommodates individuals with differently sized feet, making the shoes highly inclusive.

The shoes are made using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), a material known for its strength and flexibility. This ensures durability while maintaining comfort. Each pair is produced through advanced 3D printing technology, which not only accelerates production but also makes it more sustainable by reducing waste.

The design of Syntilay shoes draws inspiration from futuristic elements such as spaceships and yachts. The artistic influence of Syd Mead, known for his iconic visuals in Blade Runner and Aliens, is evident in the sleek and unconventional aesthetic of these shoes.

Syntilay’s AI-designed shoes are priced at $149.99 (INR 13065) per pair. While this price point positions them as premium products compared to traditional slides or sandals, the brand emphasises that customers are paying for cutting-edge technology, customization, and sustainability.

The shoes are already available for purchase through Syntilay’s official website. The company has plans to expand its distribution network globally in the near future.
